AI-Augmented Analytics — Roadmap & Vision
Where this dashboard is headed · In development or near-term feasibility with BILH DataHub infrastructure
ROADMAP
These capabilities are grounded in published literature and existing BILH infrastructure — not vaporware. Several are active at peer institutions. Priority is on embedding them natively into this portal as the data pipeline matures.
Infection Control Surveillance
ML-flagged HAI risk scores embedded directly in the patient census. C. diff cluster detection, MRSA acquisition alerts, and outbreak probability mapping using EHR + microbiology data — before the traditional surveillance catches it.
HAI Surveillance Epic + Micro data Published models exist
Stewardship Intelligence
Automated flagging of de-escalation opportunities in bacteremia: time-to-appropriate-therapy tracking, culture follow-up gaps, days-of-therapy optimization. Feeds directly into the ASP compliance metric visible above — closes the loop between surveillance and intervention.
ASP DOT tracking Integrates with DataHub
HIV Cascade & Care Gap Detection
Predictive identification of PWH at risk for viral rebound or loss to follow-up — from appointment gaps, lab trends, and social determinants in Epic. PrEP candidacy flagging in ED and primary care referrals. Live feed into the viral suppression metric above. Active at Fenway Health; feasible at BIDMC with existing ID data domain in DataHub.
HIV Cascade SDOH integration Peer institution precedent
Genomic Outbreak Detection
Integration of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) from the BIDMC clinical micro lab with EHR metadata for transmission cluster detection — CRE, CRAB, VRE, fungal outbreaks. Broad Institute proximity makes this unusually feasible here. Turns sequencing from a forensic tool into a prospective one.
WGS Broad proximity Hospital Epi
Consult & OPAT Intelligence
Predictive OPAT candidacy scoring at time of consult — flagging patients likely to succeed on home IV antibiotics before the team even asks. Consult complexity triage (routine vs. high-acuity) to support staffing. Time-to-consult and response-time tracking embedded in the consult volume KPI above.
OPAT Prediction Consult triage Epic Orders data
Natural Language over DataHub
Snowflake Cortex Analyst — already available in the BILH DataHub infrastructure — lets faculty and the chief ask ad-hoc questions in plain English: "Show me Dr. X's OPAT consult volume by quarter" or "Which service generates the most ID consults after 5pm?" No SQL required. Requires building a semantic model on top of existing DataHub tables — the next phase of this project.
Cortex Analyst Snowflake NL→SQL Infrastructure exists now
